Thoughts on the refugee cross

After           Fear                   Death

In memory of all those who fled:

out of fear of having no future,

out of fear of destruction and violence,

out of fear of persecution and torture,

out of fear for the future of their children,

out of fear of hunger and death,

out of fear of religious fanaticism,

out of fear of racism and a ban on expression,

out of fear of becoming like their persecutors,

and died in the process.

After           Fear                   Death

For reflection for all those who have barbed wire around their hearts

and are on the run from themselves.

Death will also welcome them

regardless of origin, skin colour, gender or religion.

The cross as a symbol of suffering,

shards of mirror as a symbol of broken lives and

Barbed wire as a symbol of closed borders and limited brains.

White as a symbol of innocence.
